Cześć wszystkich! SO much has happened this week; I got a lot of stories to tell.
Does anybody remember Pani Lidia? Our 93-year-old babcia friend here?
Well. It was Wednesday night after English. It was getting pretty dark and we were walking to our tram stop when we saw a silhouette in the distance with two walking poles. We got a little closer and I realized it was our Pani Lidia.
"She doesn't usually walk over her, does she?" I asked as the figure swayed a little. "Have we seen her out this late?" Then, in slow motion, we watched her stay again and topple against a parked van and onto the sidewalk.
Darn. We had been so close to almost saving her. BUT we ran over as she lay face-down on the concrete. I had Sis Baldwin go get a guy nearby to come help. And so he ran over and was like "we are going to help you get up!"
And she looked up at him and fiercely exclaimed "No! I'll do it myself!"
She told us to go, but we eventually convinced her to let us sit her up against the van so she, but she still wouldn't let us help her up. Her wrist had been hurt (probably broken, but this whole story is an example of classic Polish babcia stubbornness)
We kept trying to convince her to let us help her up, but she told us she needed a few minutes of rest.
So in the meantime, she talked to us She told us about how she needed to eat more cabbage, she hadn't been eating enough, and the cabbage would help her.
"I really believe in that cabbage," she told us.
Well, long story shorter, we finally stood her up and walked her to her home. She wouldn't let us call her son. So we had to leave her there and pray she would be okay. Hopefully we will be able to figure out how to check up on her.
Sis Baldwin has found a really solid family from the area book. We had to take an hour-long train and then a drive to her house. Sis Baldwin and I were saying to each other that maybe after this we should try to do some meetings through Skype or something like that, but when we left we were like any distance, any time, we are coming back here every week! We are trying to help them establish a habit of scripture study and prayer. Two young kids. Any ideas? What has helped your families or people you have taught to read the scriptures and pray? (Haha probably only my immediate family members have read this far) We are going back this week to teach the kids primary songs, so that should be good.
We had Zone Conference this week which was so inspirational. We talked about CREATIVITY!! Cause it makes missionary work so much more fun and productive! Exactly what I needed to hear, and definitely feel like I am on the brink of receiving some really good inspiration from the Holy Spirit about how to do better work here in Poznań.
On Saturday we had Temple Night! It was a success! We had quite a few people come and explained what we believe about the Book of Mormon, about God's plan for us, and answered common questions. The Szczecin elders stayed and helped out, which was really nice of them and much needed.
We had most of our members there too, and it was so cool to watch them explain the Gospel and talk about their experiences. Marta, one of the members about our age, is such a powerful speaker. So cool. So I think it really was a good experience for our members too.
This Saturday we get transfer calls! I'm pretty sure my dear companion, Sis Baldwin, is out of Poznań, but we will see what happens!
Are y'all getting pumped for General Conference???
